The Ferris-Haggarty mine was a major copper-gold-silver mine in the early 20th century, but closed following disasters related to the mill and smelter burning to the ground along with a drop in copper prices. Most ore likely remains unmined and has similarities to Arizona's world-class United Verde mine. The Ferris-Haggarty appears to be a volcanogenic massive sulfide deposit surrounded by several similar deposits in the Sierra Madre Mountains of Colorado and Wyoming.
